What Makes Renew the Mind different?
Renew the Mind Counselling is a small business that prides itself in providing counselling to cater for individualised needs.
The client experience is paramount and therefore we connect to ensure that we meet the client’s expectations.
Building trust with the client is extremely important and we work to ensure that the therapeutic relationship provides that for the client.
We understand that attending a counselling session for the first time can cause some anxiety and we will gently guide you through what a session might include.
Our well-appointed space provides an environment that is welcoming and relaxing and conducive to a client’s feeling of trust and well-being.
Barbara Nicholls – Founder
Qualifications and Experience
Barbara Nicholls is a Clinical Counsellor with a Bachelor of Education, a Diploma of Professional Counselling and a Master’s Degree in Learning Innovation (Guidance and Counselling). She is also a registered Supervisor with the ACA College of Supervisors. Her previous experience as a teacher in both city and remote areas, gave her an insight into the emotional needs of the parents, students and other teaching staff. She realised that the struggles of every-day life had a far-reaching impact on people in family settings, social settings, school settings and other workplace settings. For this reason, she chose to move into the field of counselling.
She counselled for ten years in the education system before moving into her own practice where she has been successfully providing counselling services for private clients individually, or as couples. She has also worked with EAP clients providing critical incident support in workplaces, individual counselling services and regular on-site counselling support.

Accredited Counsellor
Lesley
Lesley is a teacher, psycotherapist, hypnotherapist, authorised celebrant and author.
Children have always been some of her best teachers (both in the classroom and in the family home) their honesty though sometimes confrontational has enabled her to reflect on life and learn from through their lenses.
But, children also have families who she has learned over many years (along with her personal experience) don’t always get the foundations on which to build a healthy secure future, which unfortunately can become generational
None of us know what we don’t know. Lesley has been blessed to also work alongside some incredible clients who have trusted her, with their hearts and sometimes damaged souls; most of whom who have wanted to break the cyles of abuse and violence to make a difference in the lives of their own children.
Whilst Lesley enjoys all areas of counselling her particular interests are working with children and young people and domestic violence.
Accredited Counsellor
Lee Heather
Lee had a long career as an Emergency nurse and eventually left to pursue counselling. He has worked in a variety of counselling settings including a neighbourhood centre where he was a generalist counsellor in an adolescent area. Here he addressed teen issues that prevented them from entering the workforce.
He has had experience also in a domestic violence service where he was both a counsellor and a group co-facilitator. His past experience as an Emergency nurse and DV counselor lends Lee to having a particular interest in trauma and its effects.
