Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I see a counsellor?

Counsellors work with everyday issues and stressors including grief and loss, and mild anxiety and depression and relationship problems. They are able to provide strategies to help and support the client to try to solve the presenting issue. They focus on the needs of the client/s in a supportive environment and do not diagnose mental health disorders. It is important to check with the Australian Counselling Association to verify that a counsellor is registered.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to see you?

How many sessions do I have to attend?

This varies according to the problem and is often determined by the success of the counselling relationship.

If my partner does not want to attend, can I come on my own if I have problems in my relationship?
